Leech

This plastic monster illustrates a severe problem consuming our world we need to reign in: waste.

Plastic bags have become commonplace in our society today; the average consumer will use approximately 500 of them a year. The majority of these bags are only used once and very few are recycled. They are used for less than an hour but remain for hundreds of years.

The kite’s exterior is constructed of over 70 different types of recovered plastic bags, with 1000+ stuffed inside.

With this kite I really want to shine a light on how unnecessary, and excessive, single use plastic is.

‘Leech’ was part of Thought Bombers by
JDK Design, on display at the BCA Center
from June 3 – August 20, 2011.

‘Leech’ is currently on display in
Seventh Generation‘s headquarters
as part of a plastics pollution module.

Moving Planet

Poster designed for 350VT‘s Moving Planet, a worldwide day to put our demands for climate action into motion—marching, biking, skating—calling for the world to go beyond fossil fuels.

On Saturday, September 24th at 2pm, Moving Planet, a coalition of businesses, non-profits, colleges and universities, and individuals concerned about global warming, gathered on the Statehouse lawn in Montpelier for the largest climate action event ever held in Vermont.

As seen on The Huffington Post.

Discovery

With other recipe-searching services, you need to dig through categories and basically already know what you’re looking for. We decided it was time for a more explorative, fun, enjoyable food-finding experience.

Our solution is a web app, Discovery, where you can preform a simple search and a single recipe will be suggested to you. Unique ways to discover include searching by an adjective, feeling, mood, or emotion.

Discovery works fluidly on any device by use of dynamic scaling, so the experience is the same if you’re at the grocery store on your phone or in the kitchen with your iPad.

Created from scratch within a 21 hour period for the VT Hackathon.

Front end developing by the
talented Michael Fowler.

the unknown change

This brand concept and five-poster series brings climate change awareness by focusing on the lesser known side effects. My vision was a design that initally provokes a positive feeling, but after reading the subheadline and body text, the viewer discovers a startling realization. Each poster’s message was selected from the article “Top 10 Surprising Results of Global Warming” by Andrea Thompson on LiveScience.

I branded the series as “the unknown change,” developing a logo that appears confusing, organic, and ever-changing. The brand is clean but serious, relating to the term “climate change,” but with a focus on showing the less common, and somewhat strange, side effects of a warming planet.
